2022 - Maine Medical Center
Maine Medical Center has a rich history that traces its beginnings to the mid-nineteenth century. Just five years after the Great Fire of 1866 destroyed much of Portland, construction began on what was then Maine General Hospital, built with a mission of caring for our communities, educating tomorrow’s caregivers, and researching new ways to provide care.
Maine Medical Center has remained true to that mission for more than 150 years, expanding and modernizing the care it provides to meet the complex needs of families throughout the region. Today, it is the state’s largest medical center, an acclaimed teaching hospital, a world-class biomedical research center, and a part of the MaineHealth system, whose vision is working together so our communities are the healthiest in America.
